Everyone who works for us is a volunteer. We have no paid staff, which means all of our people want to be with us and they love what they do. Our volunteers range in age and background, but we’re always looking for more people to join our team.
We operate primarily out of Bishop Auckland Hospital, but also have a small base at Darlington Memorial Hospital. We ask all new volunteers to spend some time as part of one of our request show teams, regardless of what role they’ll ultimately end up doing. This is because the patient comes first, we are here to entertain the patients and it is important that all of our volunteers understand that. Most volunteers end up making friends and stay as part of the request show teams.
The kind of roles we have available;
- Request Collector / Ward Visitor
- Public Address
- Broadcast Assistant (Sound Editing, Library maintenance etc)
- Technician (audio)
- Technician (IT)
- Fund Raising
We are involved in all kinds of activities, such as quiz nights, outside broadcasts and other events in the community which both help to bring in funds to the station, but also keep us active in the local community.
How to get involved?
All volunteers need to be processed by CDDFT NHS Trust. This will involve the taking of references, DBS (Police) check, informal interview and an induction.
In the first instance we ask all volunteers to get in touch with us, we will arrange for you to meet us at either Bishop Auckland Hospital or Darlington Memorial Hospital. We will explain what we expect of you as a volunteer and what you can expect from us and the NHS Trust.
If both parties are happy to proceed we will pass your details to CDDFT NHS Trust who will then process your application.
Throughout this process we will stay in touch with you to get an idea of what you’d like to do when you start and to make sure everything is progressing smoothly.
Once successfully completed, you will be issued with a photographic ID and will be a registered volunteer with PBHR.
All volunteers need to spend some time with the request show team and any volunteer who wishes to become a presenter (and operate the desk) must undergo a training course.
